somethings need to be said here, first hoffman is a medevil lit specialist, second she was asked if she knew of a way in which the word has been used in a non derrogative way, and third she cited chaucer's canterberry tales in which it is used as a term of endearment.

She was talking about football players saying this to females. There is no way they actually were making a refrence to a term of endearment. She should have answered it could have been in the past but in modern times it is known only to be used derogatively. Also, between good friends is always different. When girls are suing over there treatment i don't think it was jokes between friends.

Also jokes like that can't be on a team where there is always a struggle of power and it is a coaches job to make sure athletes aren't abusing each other. Which if they were even trying to joke, i would say this qualifies for.
