crazy dreams

well probably from my prescription cough syrup i had some crazy dreams last night involving:

The host of double dare
A talking gorilla
Labrynth the movie
The actor who played Urkel beat boxing
Two tiny monkeys
Ivan Pavlov training the monkeys and gorilla... I believe to fight the host of Double Dare.

Anyways fun times with the crazy subconcious... I am back at work, but can still only kinda speak.

cancelling comcast

it took over 1 hour on the phone to cancel my old cable modem service at the house i moved out from.. Beware comcast customers.

(also this sucked cause i still dont really have my voice back so it hurt to talk... but most of the time i was on hold watching TBS.)

it sucks i am at work on a saturday... but i guess you do what you have to do and i can talk again which is cool.

today was...

today was great it was like getting presents for xmas. Seriously i didnt have anyone to hang with cause i cant really talk yet (lost my voice) and i watched sin city which i now i own on DVD which is just amazing to watch.. i mean the visuals... damn they are good.. then i also got my first robot/pet i guess i decided awhile ago i needed a vacuum.. i decided i hated to do that.. it only cost 50 bucks more for a roomba... so i decided to try a roomba out over buying a decent vacuum.. shit all i can say is this thing is more fun to watch than TV and it cleans your house... until it breaks... which is apparently their problem.. i love it.... i am working on a name for it any ideas???

yea for 11 hour day

alright i get to work a couple of 11 hour days... they are the best... especially when followed up by the fact that i have some project promises i need to get done on time. So i guess i am going to be really busy for awhile and probably not get enough sleep, which will lead to me being sick... again, which is how i ended up with my 11 hour days in the first place... oops...

new trick

My toaster broke awhile ago... i wanted waffles... so i learned a new trick and it works better. I now george forman grill my waffles, which turns out making them crispier and better... how cool is that, what can't that little george forman do?

what odd things have you made on a george forman grill?

CSS columns guides

I needed some good CSS layouts so i looked around tinkered a bit and got what i want, and I thought i should share some of the best resources i found. I would like to give thanks to everyone that has made their CSS and XHTML layouts available as it is a very cool thing to do and help out with other web developers.

Great threecolum css with header and footer

Ordered columns float model

Comic mistakes

I like comics... i like comic movies... I dont like when they ruin them, like xmen-3 having a new sex mutant that can seduce anyone... What? Did a 13 year old write his wet dream into the script of x-men? Or spiderman three having the scrawnies wouldnt hurt a fly actor playing freaking VENOM.

Google Blog search

Their is alot of discussion going on slashdot about the beta of googles blog search and many saying they just want blogs out of the main index, who wants to find kids whinning about dating and such. There is a real and far more important issue about the search than being a blog it is that the main index is timeless while the blogsearch is currently relavent results...

What I posted on slashdot:
There is a useful aspect of the blog search on the fact that it is time relevant. I mean googles index has no idea of time it is just the best believe result for your key words. Blog searches taking into account time offer much different results search president bush on goolge it will be the same things for months and months, search on blog search engines you get currently relevant results about the president in the last few days, such as bush talking about new orleans currently. I find this more valuable then to find a blog site or a non blog, I want timeless information and timely information about the same thing. Search machine learning come up with large sources and ideas on google search it on blog searches and read developers of machine learning techniques and how they are applying it and working with it right NOW. That is very usefull, if you just say to blog or not to blog, who cares.

so what are you thoughts have you ever wanted to search but tell it to only find the most current infomation on the topic like i have? Other things that might make this new search more useful sometimes?

scary number

I currently have 666 comments on my blog and that scares me... so quick someone post a comment.... thanks

also I went to the DJUG (Denver Java Users Group) for the first time tonight... I didnt know that such big people came around to give talks, some people from red hat, mac, and others two speakers each 2nd wendsday of the month, which is pretty cool. I also was approached by two recruting firms looking for people to hire, which was kinda cool. I am happy with my job and such, but i know other CS people some that aren't happy and some that are still coming out of college, so there you go... hook a brother up.. hehe

Nintendo controller

nintendo nintendo... why dont you realize you do things the market isnt ready for...

They may just have to much creativity for their own good... they showed their new concept for their entire video game system called the revolution it is all based on a weird controller that can sens motion.. yes it seems kinda cool and fun for different games, but as much as some people might like the new type of game how will i play my metal gear, how will i play mario cart, smash brothers... how will any developer support you system and other systems, how will you support pc games?

here is the promo video:

hit it

Well on sunday i worked a bunch with dina on our site, and I am happy to say that after doing some work we decided it was time for some promotion, so with our first real attempts a promotion we got posted on a big site, and today we hit 6,000 readers on scoreher... I am sure this wont last, but it is a nice little grand opening, so check out our final design and read our articles which sits at about 50 right now, so maybe the site will make it, maybe not, but I could use all your help getting the word out about, ScoreHer dating advice for men from women, I would like it. A little help in any way can make the different... comments, ideas, articles, point counter points, and everything else... seriously help a brother out... hehe if you know anyone with a webpage ask them to link it... if you know a girl ask her to submit her thoughts... If youdream of a freedom later on in your career get me moving... hehe Anyways this will be my last anouncement of scoreher, which is now officially released, go check it out click the links and everything else, cause everything helps...

peace,
Dan "given it a shot" Man

and again

I know I am supposed to stop rocking out the posts about another site, but I had to on this one.

Point: All women only want tall men a post at ScoreHer that is relevant to me... hehe I seriously wasnt the one submitting this to the girls... but I have my own thougths on it obviously. I just find it funny that it came from elsewhere... Oh well good article and hopefully it will provoke a good responce.

oh yeah proof that girls are the root of all evil... hehe

time keeps on ticking

Not a lot has been going on lately cause I have either been at work working, or I have been at home working on site stuff. Lately the site stuff has been pretty interesting I am learning alot about tracking where people are coming from what they read and what they like. It is all pretty cool to me.

Unfortunately my computer is dieing. The main hard drive on my main computer is starting to fail. It will eventually give up entirely. I am hoping to side step that issue, by purchasing a new hard drive this weekend. The probelm is that my computer is one of the many machines that comes with windows pre installed and no real windows disk to be heard of. So what am I supposed to do? Call up tigerdirect and say hey my computer failed way past warranty send me a copy of windows? It is such crap that they DRM so much of technology that it is just harder to use. I own a copy of windows that came with this machine, but I cant use it. I tried to watch a DVD a minute ago and a weird error i get once in awhile on my computer said DVD copyright error can't play media... I tried a different player and it couldnt play media because the copy protection on the disc does not allow it to be played while the TV out on my card is enabled... I DONT EVEN HAVE A TV OUT CARD. Seriously Screw the industry for making everything freaking impossible. I am thinking about not comming up with a windows solution and to instead, install an alternative OS like mandrake, red hat, or linspire which I got a free copy of during their free giveaway. Who knows with Open office 2.0, firefox, and Gimp... may I really do have little left keeping me on windows...

Last but certianly not least Scott dropped by for just a few hours. It was cool him and his friend from Boston Mike had 4 hours between plane flights in Denver so Dom, Nicole, and I met up with them for dinner... had some laughs had a chat and then took him back on his way to the airport. It was good to see you Scott...

DAVE... did you start a new job? Dave did you cry when the Buffs won...

t minus one week till my mom visits... anyone have good ideas of things to do in denver? ... wait let me say that again... things to do in denver that dont involve getting drunk at bars...

virtual plague

This is really just intersting a mistake in programming of sorts caused a plague in a virtual world having all the weekest players die un knowingly while the strongest were the only ones that cool live. It is just interesting to see how things can manifest them selves in online virtual worlds. So cool in fact.

new hobby

I think i have a new hobby...

Hurt spamming companies

mmmm fake meat

Carrie says:
only morningstar chicken nuggets-humm good veggie meat
Dan Mayer says:
yeah those are tastalicious
Carrie says:
nice use of two words that should necessarily go together!

I found this amusing.

Don Adams of 'Get Smart' Dies at 82

I loved Get Smart and I am sad to see this... I guess everyone has their time...

Get Smart dies

Picture people

Some of the people i know have been having trouble uploading and such to the gallery of pictures of my college friends. I will write an email with better advice on how to use the system and post it here as well, but right now I have a couple other more important parts of my sites to be working on....

We got linked up for scoreher again, So i need to take care of some things there, even if the people linking it think Ben and I are writting the articles.. that is crap anyone that has read my writting knows i couldnt have possibly made a site with that few grammar errors. It did however bring in tons of comments, being linked from metaFilter, even if i have to pay to try to make a comment in my own defense... so I will just let it slide and say, my friends (which i webmaster for) writting that site appreciated the extra traffic and interests, despite being called men... hehe

Also I am busy working on my friends band site and htey have some up coming shows... so i will get to the photo galleries dont worry...
