Their is alot of discussion going on slashdot about the beta of googles blog search and many saying they just want blogs out of the main index, who wants to find kids whinning about dating and such. There is a real and far more important issue about the search than being a blog it is that the main index is timeless while the blogsearch is currently relavent results...
What I posted on slashdot:
There is a useful aspect of the blog search on the fact that it is time relevant. I mean googles index has no idea of time it is just the best believe result for your key words. Blog searches taking into account time offer much different results search president bush on goolge it will be the same things for months and months, search on blog search engines you get currently relevant results about the president in the last few days, such as bush talking about new orleans currently. I find this more valuable then to find a blog site or a non blog, I want timeless information and timely information about the same thing. Search machine learning come up with large sources and ideas on google search it on blog searches and read developers of machine learning techniques and how they are applying it and working with it right NOW. That is very usefull, if you just say to blog or not to blog, who cares.
so what are you thoughts have you ever wanted to search but tell it to only find the most current infomation on the topic like i have? Other things that might make this new search more useful sometimes?

i don't care how recent it is, i have no use for searching whiney bitches' blogs. it would be nice however to search only pages that have been updated within a certain time period. go buffs!!

you are apparently one of the people (or more likely joking) that doesnt realize there are many technical blogs that post common errors with programms, electronics, and other things that with the exact error code you come up wiht hte complete solution. Things like slashdot.org are considered blogs. My energy drink site is a blog, in fact anything publishing a feed RSS, XML, ATOM, or others is considered a blog, because google can get that feed and generate timed date knowning exactly when the post came out and just the content of that particular post. Yes there is no need for a search engine of personal blogs, but the more exciting searches come from news blogs, watchdog group blogs, statistics blogs. Then again the personal blog does have the occasional post that will interest many like, I bought X game it kept crashing my computer and I learned that if you install it into program files/gamename it works, because no matter where you install it the registery entries point to the program files directory... Or some such nonsense. Either way You are a whiny bitch, and read my whiny bitch blog. hehe
