I have for a long time said I hope to find a woman, who doesnt want a diamond for her wedding ring. I found a nice little site that sums up many of the reasons diamonds are just bad. So hopefully their are some women out their that haven't been to brain washed that they feel they have to have a diamon. In the end though who ever I fall for will play a role in this decision, I just hope she also sees the reasons not to support this horrible trade.

i dont know anything (or care) about jewelery. Dominic surprised me with a very nice diamond ring but I would have said yes to a twist tie.

I've known for a long time that the diamond trade is pretty treacherous and that DeBeers is an evil, evil company. I do, however, think diamonds are pretty cool stones. I took a rocks-for-jocks 1 credit online class in college that was about diamonds and other gems.
Structurally, diamonds are really interesting elements. Man-made diamonds are becoming increasingly popular. Much to DeBeers' dismay, scientists have figured out how to molecularly manipulate certain carbon compounds to turn them into diamonds. Basically what they're doing is rearranging the carbon molecules so that they're equally bonded in every direction. Man-made diamonds are way cheaper than any mined diamonds. I've also heard that there are such things as eco-diamonds that you can get from companies that use socially conscious practices when mining the diamonds.

yeah i know about the man made diamonds and that is definately an option, but it still supports that it has to be a diamond, which is just a pretty arbitrary rock. Anyways i am pretty sure we have both read the same wired article on deBeers and the man made diamonds, and how scared they are.
