I know I have posted about diamonds before, but I will have to do it again, because I found an even better article going into all of it.
Diamonds are worthless, making people believe in non existent value.
It is kind of old and not everything they talk about has worked out that way, but still good history of why DeBeers is crap.

Of course a diamond is mind control. A wedding ring is oft refered to as "a scrotal lazer" that zaps the gonads of drooling men who want to seduce married women.
But it's power is only within the belief that it has power.
