In the Code

Well we are finally started to get into some of the actual coding which is nice. The only problem is that now I am programming such a large portion of the day that I have been dreaming about it. Last night I was trying to get my unit tests to pass and trying to debug a database failure... Lame

I wish I had some time to change around the look of this blog, but I just don't have the time and I know if I am spending time working on that kind of stuff it could be better spent on some of my other sites. I must admit I am blog jealous of Dominic Filosa and Nicole Filosa who have both been slowly messing around with their sites and making them much simpler and cleaner.

Now that you have fixed up your own blogs, perhaps it is time to turn your attention to the Fall Out Boy site, I just extended your domain for 1 year, so you might as well not waste it right? Anyways, nice work the blogs look good.

It sounds like I will get to go to my first Seder dinner next week so that should be fun, yippie for spending a little time getting together to know another culture a little bit better.

I currently lost my wallet, so I am going to go tear up my room, house, car, and such until I find it. I am pretty sure it is somewhere in the house. I know I had it in Boulder on Sunday, and I really haven't done much since then...

I did have a friend suggest that the closet gnome with an axe from my old Boulder house possibly stole my wallet to lure me back there...

Wallet Found

Call of the searches I found my wallet thanks for all your support through these difficult times...

Walking

I have debated how long I walk to and from work each day, now I have a pretty good idea... Thanks to gmap-pedometer.

I walk 1.6688 miles every day to get to and from work.

Yippie for me, now I am going to go eat some deep fried ice cream stuffed waffles.

(note it is a little weird on the site you click to drag the map, say start recording. Then to add points you need to double click).

Week Off

So I have a week off before returning to finish out the month at my current job. Then it will be all start up all the time. I am spending a bunch of my time off, tying up loose ends and getting things ready to go to Honduras.

So Pretheory didn't get in to either of the start up seeding groups, that we applied to. I guess that won't change the plan since applying to either of these wasn't in the original plan anyways. So now that I am pretty much done with the job, we know where we will be, and what we are doing I guess it is off to the races.

It is weird as I have been trying to prepare and get back into the swing of development for this I have sort of felt like I am studying for finals. It makes a little bit of sense, but it really should be a completely different thing.

We did our Seder dinner last night which was a good time. Interesting songs involving goats, cats, dogs, and the angel of death were sang. A treasure hunt involving prizes was played, and I actually learned a little more about a bunch of Jewish holidays. Everyone was pretty tired by the end of it and crashed pretty early.

It sounds like we are going to try to get some skiing in while I am off as well, since this is the last weekend of skiing which is always a good time.

I am done with my taxes (thank god) and I am getting some money back (sweet).

Shots

All my friends and family in the future doctor business seriously is stabbing someone the best way we can come up with to deliver medicine? I am helping you but I am hurting you. I was all sore from skiing and I had to get two shots today... It hasn't started yet but my right arm is going to hurt something horribly, I can feel it getting more sore already...

You know it is love when you willingly get stabbed in the arm to go see someone.

Car Registration

After the title to my car getting lost in a paperwork shuffle, many mailings and DMV visits, emissions tests, and $140 I finally have the car in my name registered in Colorado. Admittedly I could have taken care of this about two months ago, but at that point I wasn't sure I would be living in Colorado much longer so I decided to wait it out. I think this is the last of ties that had anything not in my name...

Thanks to Dom who helped get me directions after Google Maps led me to the middle of nowhere, which wasn't close to the emissions testing facility, and again when I got to a DMV that didn't do license plates.

So my week off has been about a bunch of little errants and shrinking my todo list, but I also got in more skiing than I have all year. We skied Copper Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The snow was amazing for this late in the seasons. It actually snowed on us some of the time which was perfect. We also got to spend the night in Vail to celebrate a good friends birthday party. Over all it has been a great week off.

My body is sore all over from skiing but in that good kind of way, honestly I think it was worse on Friday than it is after a few more days of skiing. I guess my body is getting used to it. Which I think means I need to try to work out more while I am ahead before I become lazy again, skiing is just way more fun than going on a run.

It is sad that I only got up skiing 5 times this year, and it is time to pack all of the gear away into the basement. I am hoping that with out a standard work schedule I can get up more next year, because the weekend crowds are crazy and one benefit of starting your own company is you make your own hours. I could easily work a Saturday to go ski on a Thursday.

Honduras

I now have plane tickets to Honduras, it should be a blast traveling out of the country and seeing how other parts of the world live.

Hurray for Honduras!

Email Harvesting

Due to some spam bot harvesting issues across all the blogs we have now implemented a simple harvesting deterrent. It isn't anything particularly complicated or amazing, but since it was taken care of in the core code it applied to all site instantly which is nice. So if you notice now anyone who has a link in the comments the email address still works in a mailto but has some alterations that prevent most bots from being able to work with the addresses. I didn't want to do anything that would hamper the ability to use email to bad, so after checking out a few different methods I went with the email alteration. The fix works with all existing addresses that have previously been entered into any of the sites.

Anyways just letting those who are blogging with me know...

On the other front

One week and two days left at my job, then I get to go crazy and start to try our Pretheory company idea full time. Exciting!

Another little announcement on the energy drink website, a partnership with Sobe that has been a long time coming has finally begun. They are sponsoring the site for a few months, which should be exciting. We might try to come up with some special promotions or something, but only time will tell.

Pretheory is now legit

Well it looks like we are moving forward. I have 4 days left at my job and then I get to work, think, and build our application full time. The latest step in the right direction is Pretheory is now an official LLC entity in Colorado.
