My brother had his wedding last weekend. It was a wonderful event in Chicago and now a good friend of mine for years is my sister. Crazy never even thought about the concept of having a sister, not that I think it is really quite the same at this age, but it is still cool knowing there is another person that I will likely see my whole life and grow old being a part of each others lives.

I think my brother and Doc make a wonderful couple and I couldn’t be happier for them. They both compliment each other very well, and push each other to grow in good ways. I got to be the best man in the wedding, and I was really honored to be a part of the whole event. The ceremony was very well done and it involved many of their friends helping to illustrate the depth of their bond. The weekend was filled with happy friends and family all getting to spend time together, it was great to see everyone. Unfortunately because there were so many people there and I felt like I had to keep and eye on some things, I didn’t get to talk to everyone as much as I would have liked.
I hate public speaking. It terrifies me, so I spent weeks preparing a best man speech to give at the reception. I still think that taking public speaking in college (got most improved award) was one of the smartest things I have done. I don’t think I am very good at public speaking, but I seem to be able to manage much better than I could in the past. Anyways, unfortunately because my brother apparently wanted me to have an ulcer most of the reception, the speeches were given way late in the evening after dinner. Since I was so nervous I couldn’t eat to much, and I was refusing to drink anything until after I gave my speech so I was also likely one of the last completely sober people at the wedding. Anyways the speech came and went with out problems, followed by me having a shot of rum.

After making the rounds and talking to everyone that was at the wedding, soon the music began, and everyone was dancing. Many times there were so many people on the dance floor that you had to dance around the edges, which was awesome. I am not sure exactly when the dancing started, but we didn’t stop until we were kicked out of the event. I must say the Mayer’s and Dougherty’s friends and family certainly no how to dance. After being kicked out of the venue we all headed next door to the bar, where people had final night caps, and many cheers were shared. I bounced out a little early to get a friend home that had drank one to many, I also left early so I could spend some time with my lovely girlfriend.

It was the first time I got to see Erin since she moved to NYC. It was an amazing weekend, and we left feeling more in love than ever which is always a nice way to end a visit. After all the wedding stuff, Erin and I had lunch with my father and Nancy, where Erin got to meet them for the first time. Then we ran off to our hidden hotel to avoid all the others in town for the wedding to share an evening of messages, hot tubing, wine, and a nice dinner. We finished the evening with Erin falling asleep in my arms as I watched a movie.
I had an amazing time, and want to give one last shout out to the newly married Shawn and Meghan Mayer!

Many of these amazing photos are from their photographer's blog.
