My Big Break

I just had a nice big vacation to end 2007. The end of every year is always crazy and a little overwhelming. I have this incredible build up for all the end of the year events and come the beginning of January, it is always just another year, just another where am I in life? At the end of the year, I have my once a year trip home with to see the family, then Xmas, followed by my birthday, ending with new years. High hopes and expectations for everything. This year things were different. This year I was home longer than I have been since I was 21, my brother couldn't make it and I did my birthday and new years in Springfield for the first time since I was 21. Luckily everything isn't over and back to normal already. I am back in CO and sorta working, but Erin doesn't leave for NYC for another 10 days.

Random thoughts about my break...

Holidays don't feel right with out your family around, Shawn you were missed and it made being home feel a little off.

Be kind to your body, I really don't think I had been getting enough sleep or sleeping well lately, while home, I would take naps, stay up until I was tired, and sleep in not getting out of bed until I felt completely refreshed... This frequently led to not arising from bed until the early afternoon, but I felt great because of it.

Favorite foods, there is always something to be said for comfort foods, being home and getting some Magic Kitchen Thai food, Mel O Cream donuts, and home made lasagna really hit the spot.

Time together, since doing the long distance thing, there is really never enough time alone with Erin. We had some amazing times in Springfield, basically doing nothing. We made each other amazing Crab legs for dinner for 16 bucks. We rented movies, laid in a field (looking at the stars), went on walks, bought cookies, and did nothing special. It was great to know how happy I could be doing nothing in particular.

Everything changes, this year was the first year we didn't do a big planned new years trip in a long while, and I thought being in our home town for so long during the holidays I would get to see everyone. I saw pretty much no one, everyone was only home for a day or two and was pretty much with their families.

It really is fun to bring someone who has never seen where you have grown up, and show them around all the little sights of your town. It was nice to be back and just be happy showing where I came from as a history.

Nothing big nothing profound, but it was a great trip that has put a smile on my face and made me happy about where I currently am in life.
