A NYC Weekend

So part of doing a long distance relationship is trying to find times to visit and make sure you both are still on the same page. It is obviously hard when so much is going on. So a quickly put together trip when opportunity arises is a common lifeline of a long distance relationship.

So after Erin keeps telling me how nice NYC was for the end of summer, I decided I should try my best to visit and see it. Unfortunately I arrived at the same time as a hurricane arrived on the east coast. At least it was kind enough to not delay any of my flights. The rain didn't seem to really slow us down to much.

Saturday we woke up and enjoyed a slow start, coffee in bed as well as a walk with Spot. Then we headed to the MOMA to see some art, specifically the Salvador Dali exhibit that was visiting at the time. That was fun, but we got soak by all the rain getting to and from the museum.

After cleaning up a bit, we headed out to get some Italian food. Unfortunately the place we wanted to try, wasn't really accessible. All the rain had flooded the street, and the restaurant was still open, but could only be accessed by walking through six inches or more of water. After hearing that we decided to call somewhere else that might be a little easier to visit for dinner. Sadly we ended up at Max SoHo, which while having good reviews turned out to be a terrible place to eat. The food was worse than Olive Garden, cost much more, and the service sucked.

Luckily by Sunday it seems all the weather had cleared up and we had an amazingly nice day on our hands. We headed to Central Park, since amazingly I had never seen it before. It was nice to see, and we found the Beer Garden (Tavern on the Green) which had some live music. Afterwords we tried a random Sushi place, which turned out to be awesome, and went home to watch a movie.

Overall it was an amazing time in NYC, even if I was only there for two quick days... My travel there and back sucked, but I guess I just have to blame the airlines for that, which I will write more about soon.

My Typing Speed, 70 Words Per Minute

So I was reading and excellent blog post by Steve Yegge about the importance of typing speed and realized that I don't even know how fast I can type. I decided to take a quick little speed test and find out. It turns out that I can type about 70 WPM when I am just writing free thoughts like now. I can get about 50 WPM when I am copying the text for the test.

Now this was all on my tiny laptop keyboard if I was on a real keyboard again for awhile I am sure it would improve a bit.

So take the speed typing test yourself and post your WPM...

Obama Bumper Sticker and Erin advertises...

I am not really a fan of bumper stickers... I actually have never put any on my car. So me finally deciding I should put one on to support Obama matters... Look at the Subaru rocking the Obama 08 sticker.

And Erin doing some Devver advertising during my recent trip to NYC, at the beer gardens in Central Park.

Busy Week

I have a busy week coming up... I think there is more to do than I can really get done... So it is all about prioritizing what is most important, and sometimes that is hard to know.

So wish me luck, and have a great and exciting week yourself.

Still undecided

I thought this was a great write up by my favorite Googler Peter Norvig. If you are still undecided it is really worth looking at. Peter is an admitted Obama supporter, but he tries to present all his reasoning in terms of facts, not really opinions.

Norvig is also one of the authors of my favorite book Artificial Intelligence A Modern Approach... Smart guy.
